The Women's Action & Information Group better known as WAIG was established in 1983 and was initially known as the Lane Cove Women’s Safety Group.

The group began by organising self-defence courses as a means of empowering ourselves following a series of sexual assaults in the area.

Since that time WAIG has diversified to meet the needs of a range of women. Today, WAIG offers:

·         A Monday discussion program which includes topics of a wide interest to women and cover social, cultural, political and economic issues as well as regular book reviews

·         An evening book group

·         A women’s writer's group

·         An annual seminar on a range of topics

·         Community representation on a number of committees

 ·         Information and referral support

·         An extensive resource library

Above all we are a group which supports and connects women and which has over time maintained a significant participation in the women’s movement.

We are committed to achieving social justice for women.

WAIG relies entirely on volunteers for its operation. While partly funded by Lane Cove Council, membership is vital and your participation will help to keep the group going. In this way we can reach out to even more women.

You can contribute by joining the group if you have not already done so. We look forward to your involvement and thank all of our members over the years for their dedicated efforts.
